CONFERENCE Migrations: an opportunity to Portugal

Catholic University of Portugal, Lisbon

30 Jan 2014 10: 00 AM - 01 Jan 0001 12: 00 AM

Migration is one of the most current and controversial topics in today’s world.

The European Union has been confronted with some recent controversies such as the in the humanitarian tragedies of the Lampedusa island and the amendment proposal to the law immigration in the UK.

In Portugal the subject is also on the agenda. The country has changed very quickly from a migratory pattern to a reality where the number of immigrants dropped severely unlike the number of qualified young people who leave the country to live abroad which is arising dramatically.

Moreover, migration policies have also undergone profound changes: after a movement focused on the traditional labour, we are now witnessing a growth of a consumer an economical migration oriented to the talent and human capital flow.

Professor Paul Collier has been devoting to this topic structured, deep and fearless, untypical in the usual preconceived discussions on this matter thought. In particular-is dedicated to analyze the effects of migration for countries of origin and destination of migrants. It is this fresh and thorough vision that brings this conference.
