Professorships

Católica Global School of Law has consistently and successfully been reinforcing its faculty with renowned scholars. The Gulbenkian Foundation decided to support two Gulbenkian Professorships at Católica Global School of Law. Two young and bright scholars – Matej Accetto and Gonçalo de Almeida Ribeiro – are the recipients of these professorships.

Católica aims not only at strengthening the production of groundbreaking global legal scholarship but also at ensuring that Católica's students are provided with continuous academic support.

Gonçalo de Almeida Ribeiro teaches jurisprudence, private law theory, and economic analysis of law at the Católica School of Law & Global School of Law in Lisbon. He earned doctoral (S.J.D., 2012) and master (LL.M., 2007) degrees from Harvard Law School and a basic law degree (Licenciatura, 2006) from the School of Law of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (with the highest distinction). He earned several fellowships and awards while studying at Harvard. As an undergraduate, he participated in study groups on Southern African political and economic development as a consultant for the Development Studies Centre of the OECD (Paris) and the Tropical Research Institute (Lisbon).

Matej Accetto is Gulbenkian Professor of Law at Católica Global School of Law (from September 2013). Prior to that, he lectured at the University of Ljubljana and chaired the law faculty’s PhD committee. He obtained his LL.M. from Harvard Law School in 2001 and a Doctorate in Law from the University of Ljubljana in 2006. He has also been a former Fellow of the Lord Slynn of Hadley European Law Foundation (2003–04), the Monica Partridge Visiting Fellow at the University of Cambridge, Fitzwilliam College (2006), a Japan Foundation Fellow at Waseda University (2011) and a Visiting Scholar at the University of Cambridge, Faculty of Law (2012). He has also offered visiting courses at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing (China), ISES Foundation in Kőszeg (Hungary), Irkutsk State University (Russia) and Católica. His research presently focuses on EU public law, notably the role of the courts, and on citizenship issues.
